Our history
FMA Alliance, Ltd. (FMA), then Financial Management Associates, began as an idea between two guys having coffee, while scribbling a business idea on a napkin. They had no clients and no investors, just a barrel of grit, belief in their drive, and a desire to help people.
The best leaders lead by example. Jeff Spiegelhauer and Doyle Burkett started FMA in 1983, handling accounts for small, local doctors’ offices. Jeff and Doyle created a call center environment, talking to patients who were experiencing difficulties with their medical bills, developing a true understanding of their needs. They rapidly brought on more small clients and handled their own accounting, holding every position in the company, as they built FMA from its foundation. From the beginning, it was their primary goal to help the consumer.
Within a year, they signed on a major hospital for secondary bad debt collections, just to get their foot in the door. Next, they signed a Financial Services client and started helping bankcard holders with their credit-card debt. This started a ripple effect and other large banks, catalog order firms, and retail businesses soon came on board with FMA.
Today, FMA is a well-respected company with hundreds of clients across the United States. Though FMA has grown exponentially over the years, we have never lost our small company culture. From the call center floor to the board room table, FMA respects and cares for all its employees. Most of all, FMA cares about its clients, their customers, and the communities they serve. Since the beginning, FMA has focused on helping people, clients and consumers alike. And we continue to do that every day. Helping people is what we do. It is who we are. It is what makes FMA the company that cares.

Jeff is a nationally recognized leader in the credit and collections industry. He has over 30 years of experience providing receivables management solutions to FORTUNE 500 banks, retailers and healthcare providers. He has served as a corporate director on several boards and advisory committees. He is a past President of the ACA of Texas and is the recipient of many service and leadership awards. Jeff is an accomplished speaker and has been recognized as an Executive Speaker at the Mays Business School of Texas A&M; University. He is a graduate of Texas A&M; University and served as an officer and a pilot in the United States Air Force.

Doyle is a Founding Partner and has over 30 years of experience in sales and marketing with FMA Alliance. He is a past President of ACA of Texas and holds a BBA-Marketing degree from Texas A&M.; He is also a Master Mason, Scottish Rite 32 Degree and Shriner. Doyle has been married over 29 years and is a proud father and grandfather.

Mike began his career in the contact management industry in 1986, working hands-on in virtually every industry vertical, including Card, Loan, Healthcare, Auto, Student Loan, DDA, Fintech, B2B, Household Services (satellite & cable TV, telecom, etc.), and large, complex First Party Projects. Known as a growth management expert, Mike has the rare combination of strong analytical, communication, and vision-driven talent. As a subject matter expert in the FDCPA, TCPA, FCRA, and GLBA, Mike has focused the company’s approach to include a positive customer experience; one that is compliant, fair, and consistent.
Since 2014, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Business Bureau’s Education Foundation, and was selected by the CFPB to participate in the Debt Collection Rule Making SBREFA panel. Educated at the University of Nevada, Mike is a proud father of two, his hobbies include fishing, hiking, and cheering on his hometown San Francisco sports teams.

Karen has been with FMA since 2004 and has over 40 years of experience in the accounting field. She is responsible for all A/P and A/R functions including invoicing, wire transfers, and trust accounts. She is also responsible for all HR functions and ensures all client requirements regarding hiring practices are followed.

Alan brings more than 35 years of receivables management experience, having worked in virtually every vertical including Healthcare, Government, Card, Loan, Auto, Telecom, and large, complex First Party/Early-Out Projects. Alan is instrumental in helping business professionals find revenue solutions in these industry verticals. Alan’s expertise allows him to create unique operational solutions tailored to meet each client’s business needs. Alan is also a Certified Healthcare Collection Specialist (CHCS) and is actively involved in industry organizations, including American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) and Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) where he has successfully served at several levels, including 1st and 2nd VP (AAHAM), Membership Committee and Membership Chair (HFMA) where he received the Platinum Award of Excellence two years in a row for Membership Growth and Retention, and a Committee Member for The ACA International for several years.

Tim relocated from Upstate New York to join the FMA team in 2011. Tim has a degree in Business Management and is responsible for managing FMA’s Client Services and QA teams as well as facilitating client audits. Tim and his team strive daily to ensure that FMA’s clients receive industry leading support. Tim is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with his Yorkshire Terrier and fiancé.

Scott Glanville holds a degree from St. Bonaventure University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. With great success, Scott applied his strengths as a critical thinker and a problem solver when he decided to enter the collections industry in 2008. He was sought out to join the FMA Family in 2011, from upstate New York. Starting out as a unit manager, Scott has made vertical leaps at FMA and now oversees, plans, directs, and manages all the intricate daily operations for Healthcare Service Department.

Chinasa uses her business and legal education to ensure FMA’s continued success while staying current in the industry’s ever-changing legal environment. She holds a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and minor in Pre-Law from Georgia Institute of Technology. Chinasa attended law school at University of Houston where she graduated and successfully completed the Texas Bar. She has practiced probate, business litigation, and insurance defense. Chinasa enjoys plyometric and “boot-camp style” workouts at Hermann Park, frequent short-term trips with friends, and trying different brunch spots in the city.

Mark has over 35 years of IT experience and has been with FMA since 2002. His knowledge of FMA’s systems, policies, and people is unparalleled. Mark has a solid and diverse technical skill set and his expertise complement FMA’s existing technology program and plans for expansion. He holds a degree from Central Michigan University with a B.A. & B.Sc. in Computer Science, minor in Mathematics, and graduated Cum Laude. Mark is an avid mountain biker and Houston Astros fan.

Maurice has been with FMA since 2015 and has over 15 years of collection agency management, with extensive experience in Card, Loan, Auto, Student Loan, DDA, Commercial, Household Services(satellite & cable TV, telecom, etc.), and First Party collections. Maurice has a proven track record in improving low performing portfolios and creating custom strategies.

Jere' Rhine
Jere’ Rhine has worked with FMA since 2014. She is known for her work ethic and her ability to successfully develop people. She is a proud alumni of Texas Southern University. Jere’ is the mother of four daughters, and enjoys watching movies, and cheering on all Houston sports teams.

Dianna Sierra
Dianna holds over 33 years of Healthcare Management experience in Revenue Cycle and First Party Operations. Dianna has a proven ability to drive efforts that maximize revenue, improve customer service, and enhance the value of the brand. She is fully committed to delivering results and ensuring a successful outcome for every client she works with.

Tim Patton joined FMA in March 2019 and quickly demonstrated his ability to build a team, adjust to change and implement, and train everything that was thrown his way. He has over 20 years of combined management and collection experience, with extensive insight on Card, First Party (Early Out), Loan, DDA, Auto, Commercial, and Student Loans. Tim has a proven track record of having clients that he oversees see an increase in results and performance metrics. He believes in the process of coaching, training, developing, and follow up (and then repeating that process) with his agents and management staff so that desired results are met.

Michael was born and raised in Houston Texas and joined FMA in 2004. Michael has a degree in Business Management and manages FMA’s award winning Client Services Team. Michael’s team is responsible for all client deliverables and requests. Michael coordinates with all FMA departments to ensure accurate and timely fulfillment of client deliverables and requests. When he is not providing world class client support Michael enjoys spending time with his family, taking walks with his dog, playing tennis, and watching Houston sports.

Sonya began her FMA career in 2016 as a Third Party Debt Collector. She was quickly recognized as an amazing asset and promoted to QA Rep in 2017. In 2018, FMA was awarded a contract to handle first party collections for a new client. Management quickly identified Sonya as a perfect fit for this project and promoted her to Unit Manager. Over the last three years, she helped shape their collection process and practices–-Sonya is truly a driving force behind our success with this client. Through her hard work and dedication, FMA watched this team grow from 40 representatives in 2021 to over 100. Sonya enjoys spending time with her daughter and loves world traveling.
